About us

We are a major government department at the heart of the justice system, employing over 79,000 people across the country. Our vision is to deliver a world-class justice system that works for everyone in society

Overview

Each year, millions of people use our services across the UK – accessing our courts and legal aid, interacting with our prison and probation officers, and receiving advice and support from our agencies. Our staff are proud to work for an employer that has a real and positive impact on people’s lives.

Our staff work together and across government to protect the principles of justice – whether they are providing advice and guidance to prevent reoffending, or they are bringing the principles of justice to life for society through policy and communication.

We offer interesting and important work to people who care about making a difference.

Working for the Ministry of Justice means that you will benefit from a work-life balance that works for you, a generous pension, and a range of development opportunities including courses and accredited apprenticeships, as well as staff voucher schemes.

When people come to work for us we want them to feel safe and that they belong, are treated with empathy and respect, and have the support and solidarity of their colleagues and managers, so we can all deliver our services fairly and in response to individual needs.
