We help give people everywhere access to justice in roles that are challenging, but very rewarding. You’ll be working to help create a more effective, less costly and more responsive justice system for everyone. This includes providing supporting administration, supporting our independent judiciary and driving improvements across our courts and tribunals.

I have Stargardt disease and was registered blind aged 22.

I went on a career break to raise a family but trying to get back into work was hard. It was disheartening to feel that my disability was holding be back and I felt like I’d lost my purpose.

Michaela, Judge's Clerk

A judge’s clerk provides first line support to a Justice of Appeal or High Court Judge by ensuring the best use of the judge’s time, enabling them to concentrate on the delivery of justice. I manage all aspects of my judge’s day – this includes administrative duties such as typing judgements, diary management and liaising with internal and external stakeholders including legal counsel, members of the public and other members of the judiciary.

At first it was a lot to learn but now it’s what keeps the job interesting and challenging.

From the first time I saw the Royal Courts of Justice I’d wanted to work there. It’s such a beautiful, historic building, I just love it. My work supports the judiciary in the delivery of justice and there are many opportunities to participate in projects and expand your work experience that you just wouldn’t get anywhere else.

To do this role you have to be flexible, organised and calm. You have to be able to multitask and able to change plans on the spot. You have to be computer literate, able to type and comfortable around legal documents. Some days you’re on your feet all day, and others you’ll be glued to your laptop. You are a problem solver for the judge.
