HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for administering criminal, civil, and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales. Our mission is to deliver justice effectively and efficiently, helping people and businesses access justice.
The Change Directorate plays a critical role in supporting HMCTS’s strategic direction. Our cadre of skilled project professionals ensures that HMCTS can respond flexibly and efficiently to changing demands and priorities, and that projects are delivered to high standards and contribute to the organisation’s overall goals.
As one of our project support team, you can expect to be assigned to different projects within a varied portfolio over time, based on both business priorities and your individual development goals. We manage a wide variety of projects, each designed to address different aspects of the services we deliver. At any given time, our portfolio comprises 20 to 30 projects aimed at improving the efficiency, effectiveness and accessibility of the courts and tribunals.

About the role
As a Project Support, you will play a fundamental role in administering the successful delivery of project objectives. You’ll be at the heart of the project team, ensuring smooth operations by supporting the Project Manager with the coordination and execution of key project management processes.
Your responsibilities will span a wide range of activities, including managing essential communications with stakeholders, maintaining accurate and up-to-date project documentation, and producing insightful management reports that inform decision-making. You’ll also take ownership of coordinating business management actions, helping to keep the project on track and aligned with strategic goals
This is a dynamic and varied role that offers the opportunity to make a real impact, working closely with project leadership and contributing to the overall success of the initiative.
Your role encompasses several key aspects (but not limited to):
- Provide a full range of general administrative support for the Project, including project file management using robust version control.
- Assist with and maintain appropriate systems to enable effective planning and scheduling.
- Assist in maintaining project controls and in producing project reports.
- Act as the focal point for project responses to external requests for information, including management of mailboxes as an example.
- Provide diary management support for Senior Project Leaders.
- Assist with and maintain RAID logs, escalating as appropriate.

Who are we looking for? (Person Specification)
The ideal candidate for this position should demonstrate:
Essential
- Experience in providing comprehensive administrative support, including document management, version control, and maintaining accurate records.
- Skilled in the full Microsoft Office suite (specifically Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point) and able to learn new systems quickly.
- The ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders, and communicates clearly and professionally both written and verbally, adapting style to suit different audiences.
- Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple tasks effectively, ensuring deadlines are met and work is delivered to a high standard.
- The ability to manage, interpret complex information and utilise data to make informed decisions, improve efficiency and achieve outcomes.
- Experience of managing conflicting priorities in a fast paced, constantly changing work environment to achieve successful outcomes.
- Experience of building productive relationships with internal stakeholders such as diary managers, business managers and project managers including seeking agreements/trade-offs to keep delivery on track.
Desirable
- Previous experience of working in a programme and/ or project environment.
- Introduction to project management (or willingness to undertake).

Working Arrangements & Further Information
The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity.
Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.
For nationally advertised roles: All successful candidates will be appointed to the nearest viable office nearest to their home postcode and on its respective pay scale. This will be at either a HQ building (subject to desk allocation, a Justice Collaboration Centre (JCC) or a Justice Satellite Office (JSO) – See Map. All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity).
For current MoJ employees, your base location will need to be changed to the nearest viable office (to your home postcode), either at a HQ building, JCC or JSO within the National Office Network and moved its location’s respective pay scale (any legacy arrangements/locations will need to be amended).
Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.
MoJ candidates who are on a specialist grade, will be able to retain their grade on lateral transfer.
All candidates who are currently in receipt of Mark Time / Pay Protection should ensure they are familiar with the new policy on permanent and temporary promotion which can be found on the employee intranet.
Flexible working hours
The Ministry of Justice offers a flexible working system in many offices. Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. MoJ welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy.

Annual Leave
Annual leave is 25 days on appointment and will increase to 30 days after five years’ service.
There is also a scheme to allow qualifying staff to buy or sell up to three days leave each year. Additional paid time off for public holidays and 1 privilege day. Leave for part-time and job share posts will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.
