Overview

The Judicial Communications team for judges and magistrates is looking for a Digital Content Officer to add to a reliable and trusted communications team based at the Royal Courts of Justice. 

The Judicial Office is completely independent of the Ministry of Justice and provides a trusted service to the judiciary across England and Wales. The candidate will be joining a multi-disciplinary comms team and be able to access professional support and expertise.

For candidates within the Civil Service this post is available on level transfer or on promotion.

The Judicial Office

The Judicial Office is an arm’s length body of the Ministry of Justice. We are a unique branch of the civil service, dedicated to supporting the judiciary and promoting judicial independence, to maintain confidence in the rule of law. We help the Lord/Lady Chief Justice and the Senior President of Tribunals fulfil their responsibilities to the judiciary, in an ever-evolving justice system. We provide operational support, policy, legal and handling advice through a number of specialist teams.

The Judicial Office was established following the Constitutional Reform Act 2005, to support the Lord/Lady Chief Justice as Head of the Judiciary in their statutory and other leadership and administrative functions. It delivers a wide range of functions for the senior judiciary and to more than 20,000 judicial office holders including legal and policy advice, communications, international, training (through the Judicial College), human resources, welfare, library and information services. Through the independent Judicial Conduct Investigations Office, we deal with complaints about the conduct of judicial officeholders. The Judicial Office also provides support to the Chief Coroner and to the Judge Advocate General and supports the Lord Chancellor on certain of their judiciary-related functions.

The Role

Reporting to the Content and Campaigns Manager, you will produce and deliver engaging content for publication on Judicial Office social media channels, the public-facing Judiciary website and the judicial intranet.

You will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the Judicial Office social media channels and developing social media plans in support of the team’s wider communication strategy.

As part of the role, you will work proactively and collaboratively with the wider communications team, the broader Judicial Office and members of the judiciary to create a range of content from written articles, to video content and interviews.

Main responsibilities

- Act as the lead for all social media content for the Judicial Office.

- Maintain oversight of all day-to-day activity on the Judicial Office’s social media channels (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube) including media monitoring.

- Produce engaging, educational and original audience driven content, with a particular focus on creative content for social media channels including quotagraphs, reels, polls, etc.

- Film and edit a range of content including judge interviews and informational updates.

-Support the wider team by creating written content for wider dissemination on various channels.

- Produce weekly, monthly and quarterly content plans to deliver communications objectives and aid channel growth and engagement.

- Work directly with members of the Communications team, Press Office, Senior Judiciary’s Private Offices and the Diversity Team to proactively plan content in advance for important awareness days and events.

- Lead on use of media monitoring, with responsibility for researching, measuring and evaluating success rates of posts to support understanding of target audiences and future communications plans.

- Closely monitor online conversation from members of the public, press and the legal sector to provide daily feedback to the press team to pre-empt crisis communications.

-Take responsibility on communications from an assigned area of the judiciary, working closely with the relevant private offices and stakeholders.- Further ad hoc support to the wider communications team, as required

- Participate in the social media out of hours rota, for which an additional allowance is paid.

Essential qualities

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail, with experience of writing for different audiences
  • Experience of producing and editing digital content, including video content
  • Good organisational skills, with experience of managing social media channels

  • An understanding of the judiciary, and/or the business of courts and tribunals

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity.

Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.

For nationally advertised role: all successful candidates will be appointed to the nearest viable office nearest to their home postcode and on its respective pay scale.  This will be at either a HQ building (subject to desk allocation, a Justice Collaboration Centre (JCC) or a Justice Satellite Office (JSO) – See Map. All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity). 

For current MoJ employees, your base location will need to be changed to the nearest viable office (to your home postcode), either at a HQ building, JCC or JSO within the National Office Network and moved its location’s respective pay scale (any legacy arrangements/locations will need to be amended).

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

MoJ candidates who are on a specialist grade, will be able to retain their grade on lateral transfer.

All candidates who are currently in receipt of Mark Time / Pay Protection should ensure they are familiar with the new policy on permanent and temporary promotion which can be found on the employee intranet.

Flexible working hours

The Ministry of Justice offers a flexible working system in many offices. Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. Annual Leave

Annual leave is 25 days on appointment and will increase to 30 days after five years’ service.
