We’re recruiting for a Senior DevOps Engineer here at MoJ Digital & Technology, to be part of our warm and collaborative Platforms & Architecture team.

The Role

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at MOJ Digital & Technology, you’ll be supporting the development and operation of hosting and analytical platforms  that make a genuine difference to people’s lives. You’ll be keeping up to date with the latest technologies and trends, whilst delivering working software early and often.

Platforms and Architecture runs two hosting platforms, theCloud Platform (for new, modern services) and theModernisation Platform (for older, legacy services). We also run the MOJ’sAnalytical Platform, a cloud-first platform for secure data storage and analysis, and anOperations Engineering team who build software easy to adopt shared tooling for service teams. DevOps engineers will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering cutting-edge platforms and services for use by service teams across the MOJ. DevOps engineers can act as a technical product owner, developing medium-long term strategies for platforms and services, alongside identifying, testing, building and championing the adoption of emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

As a DevOps engineer in Justice Digital, you will:

  • Help build and run user-centred, open source platforms to serve a variety of citizen and government needs;

  • Be responsible for automating the deployment of services that follow standard patterns, or components of systems that are more complex;

  • Manage infrastructure for multiple environments through code;

  • Build tools to automate infrastructure management tasks;

  • Share knowledge of tools and techniques with the wider team and community, both developers and non-developers growing awareness, inclusivity and balance;

  • Occasionally participate in 2nd line support during office hours, and sometimes out of hours (for which you’ll be paid an allowance and further hourly payment when on call)

Technologies

We use a variety of technologies, but we don’t expect anyone to be an expert in everything:

  • Ruby, Go, Python and Node.js,

  • Kubernetes, Docker

  • AWS and Azure for infrastructure

  • Terraform and CloudFormation for infrastructure provisioning,

  • Mac laptops

  • plus many other tools

Person Specification

Essential

  • Meet the requirements for BPSS clearance

  • Have an awareness of the use of programming languages such as Python, Go, Ruby, Node.js etc.

  • Have an understanding of version control (ideally with Git)

  • Have an awareness of the use of containers, distributed schedulers, and minimal operating systems

  • Have an understanding of container orchestration such as Kubernetes or Docker Swarm

  • Have worked with public cloud providers such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud in a production system

  • Experience defining a solution using configuration management tools such as Terraform

  • Enjoy learning and helping others

  • Hold yourself and others to a high standard

  • Solve problems in a systematic way

  • Have experience working in a fast paced, agile environment

Salary

The national salary range is £50,427 - £59,000, London salary range is £54,274 - £63,500. Your salary will be dependent on your base location.
