About the role:  

Do you want to work on communications campaigns that can make a tangible difference to people’s lives, supporting some of the most vulnerable in society and keeping communities across the UK safe? If so, then the award-winning Ministry of Justice campaigns team is the place for you.

From supporting victims of sexual violence, reducing reoffending amongst prison leavers, to enabling citizens’ fair access to justice and promoting the UK’s world class legal services sector across the world, the MoJ campaigns team works across some of the most important issues in government.

The Campaigns Advisor role offers the opportunity to deliver first class communications and campaigns to influence public opinion and behaviour and help shape the perception of the MoJ’s work with key stakeholder audiences. You will help areas of the business define their objectives, understand their audiences, create content for external channels and evaluate the impact and success of their communications.

The successful candidate will deliver and evaluate external communications, which support the Ministry of Justice’s key priorities – including the recruitment of prison officers.

The role is ideal for a hard-working, dynamic and creative communicator who has experience in developing, delivering and implementing campaigns and is passionate and confident about delivering first class communications in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities:  

  • Support the delivery of the MoJ’s priority campaigns.
  • Work with other team members to develop, deliver and evaluate campaigns against clear objectives, outcomes and timeframes.
  • Manage campaigns to time, focusing on delivering the agreed campaign objectives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues inside and outside the Directorate, government departments and external organisations, to ensure the best results for the department; including building relationships with stakeholders to deliver campaign objectives.
  • Identify and flag risks and issues by working closely with policy teams and understanding their needs and concerns
  • Successfully deliver campaign messages across multiple platforms and channels working with stakeholders, partners and government.
  • Develop excellent written content for external communications channels in support of campaigns and communications activity.
  • Develop strong sector knowledge and a good understanding of the business priorities for different policy areas.
  • Provide advice on language and tone and appropriate channels and tactics to policy colleagues.
  • Act as an effective ambassador for the MoJ communications team in all interactions.

Working Arrangements & Further Information

For nationally advertised campaigns, candidates will be appointed to their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) on the completion of pre-employment checks.

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on ‘modernised’ terms in their current post or onto ‘unmodernised’ MoJ terms if they are on ‘unmodernised’ terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

Annual leave is 25 days on appointment and will increase to 30 days after five years’ service.
