Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week and flexible working options

*We are currently offering hybrid working which includes minimum 2 days per week in your local office however this is an office based role. Office locations can be found here. There is an expectation that the role will require frequent travel to London.

The Role

We’re recruiting for a Business Manager here at Justice Digital, to be part of our warm and collaborative Technology Services team.

This is a varied role that requires a deep understanding of the Director’s strategy, excellent organisational skills and the ability to relentlessly prioritise. It involves managing correspondence, key projects, engagement activities, briefings and supporting other members of the team.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director in all administrative duties incl. inbox and diary management, prioritising and managing their workload and preparing agendas for meetings run by the Director.
  • Preparing and briefing Director for meetings and events.
  • Identifying important emails or communication that require immediate action, proactively gathering input from relevant team members.
  • Commission, oversee and edit briefings and submissions for the Director, liaising with other teams where necessary and ensuring these enable priorities as set out in the Justice Digital strategy to be met.
  • Collect, collate and monitor actions and other general commissions emerging from meetings.
  • Shaping and delivering ad hoc projects to improve Tech Services operations and the efficiency of the function.
  • Maintain processes, systems and information/records to optimise the running of the Directors office
  • Building and maintaining a strong network across the department, Justice Digital and other senior areas of the MoJ.
  • Line Management of Business Support Manager: providing support in prioritising Directors workload and meetings, providing training and development.
  • Driving and delegation of key projects and initiatives to improve efficiency of directors office to all departmental Business Support Managers.

Person Specification


  • Proven track record in a fast-paced ‘Office’ (Director, Deputy Director, C-Level Executive) within a large and complex organisation
  • Experience shaping and delivering operational improvement projects. Driving initiatives autonomously.
  • Excellent planning and prioritisation skills – you are able to manage multiple concurrent tasks whilst maintaining visibility and reprioritising as needed.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills – you are able to build productive relationships easily with people at all levels and engage effectively with other functions across the organisation (HR, Finance, Commercial etc.)
  • Working knowledge Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel

Willingness to be assessed against  the requirements for BPSS clearance.
