CASE STUDY
Maurice, Senior Decision Maker
CICA is a fantastic organisation to work for. Its purpose and direction are well defined, and helping victims of violent crime is at the very core of its principles.
I was originally attracted to working with CICA by the engaging nature of the Case Officer role and the opportunity to support victims by recognising and compensating their suffering. I have since been promoted twice, contributing to multiple projects and business areas along the way. It has been a terrific learning experience and a great way to develop my career.
A large part of my daily job includes reviewing police and medical evidence to verify what injuries have been sustained and whether the applicant is eligible for an award. The cases I assess cover a wide variety of violent crimes and no two are identical. I find that I am constantly thinking, evaluating and problem solving, and feel satisfied that I am aiding victims and their loved ones in their search for closure or financial assistance.
I am currently a Senior Decision Maker within the Customer Support Team of CICA. My primary role consists of finalising complex claims and supporting colleagues around me. I take great care when writing decision letters to ensure I articulate my decision in the best way I can, finding the right balance between a detailed explanation and being concise, all while showing empathy to the victim. Applicants appreciate being listened to and knowing that their unique circumstances have been fully considered. I can go home at night and be proud of my contribution.
I would highly recommend CICA as a place to work for those seeking an engaging and challenging new role, or who take pleasure in making a difference in people’s lives.
