About the role
The purpose of this role is to support the development of cross-jurisdictional strategies and designs for HMCTS services - scoping and defining design questions, capturing current business practice, developing strategies for how HMCTS services will look in the future and aligning designs to user needs and HMCTS’ future operating model.
Working with subject matter experts to build and maintain strong relationships, to gain operational insight and to work with partners outside the organisation as required. You will also support the monthly Future Hearings Service Design, Design Authority and Design Forum meetings.
Your role as Design Support encompasses several key aspects (but not limited to):
Key responsibilities:
Support the Strategy & Design Manager in the delivery of strategy & design work, particularly for the projects within our wider Future Hearings team; including strategic development related to video hearings, the Scheduling & Listing Project, the Publications & Information Project and any other relevant work strands.
Support the Future Hearings Service Design team by carrying out administrative tasks such as preparing agendas and monthly team meetings. This will also include collating and refining updates from different projects.
Working with colleagues across HMCTS and MoJ to inform strategy & design work and capture dependencies with other developments.
Working with subject matter experts, to build and maintain strong relationships to gain operational insight and to work with partners outside the organisation.
Identify and manage downstream impacts of wider MoJ and Government policies on HMCTS services, working with teams to ensure plans and activities reflect these and are operationally deliverable.
Line management of one EO.
Key interactions will be with:
Project and service teams across HMCTS, policy colleagues, judicial partners, legal professionals, public users and representatives of the media.
Other duties
The post holder is required to work in a flexible way and undertake any other duties reasonably requested by line management which are commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of this post.

The ideal candidate for this position should demonstrate:
Essential:
The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Demonstrable capability for strategic thinking and ability to make sound judgements.
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build effective relationships across Government and externally.
The ability to manage a varied workload, and to identify priorities proactively.
The ability to grasp complex issues quickly and manage a range of views within service design and strategy development.
Desirable Skills and Criteria:
Experience or knowledge of the justice system and the current operating context of HMCTS.
An understanding of government and citizen’s needs so that services are appropriately designed and supported.
Experience or knowledge of a public policy environment either through the development or implementation of new policies and/or strategies.

We aim to sift both the CV and the Statement of Suitability but, in the event of a large number of applicants, an initial short sift may be conducted on the Personal Statement only. Candidates who pass the initial sift of the Statement of Suitability will be progressed to a full sift where the CV is then assessed.
Travel requirements
This is a National based role, however there will be a requirement to travel occasionally to London in line with business needs.
