About the Business Architecture and Transformation (BAT) Directorate
The Business Architecture and Transformation (BAT) Directorate sits at the heart of MoJ within COO Group. It supports and works closely with the MoJ leadership team, and advises ExCo on the people, skills, capability, resilience and infrastructure needed across the Department to put us in the best possible place to deliver for the current and future Governments. We work alongside MoJ People Function and in partnership with other functions to ensure the machinery of the Department is efficient and fit for purpose, whilst maintaining a strong ‘people first’ culture.
About the People Analytics Team
The People Analytics Team, sitting within the Business Architecture and Transformation Directorate, is a dynamic team which provides data-based evidence and insight across the business and People and Capability Group regarding long-term future workforce trends, medium and short-term workforce plans and the experience and dynamics of our workforce today. These outputs ensure our people plans, policies and processes are data-driven and evidence-based, employing horizon scanning, expert forecasting, workforce planning, and people analytics using qualitative and quantitative research techniques. This is an exciting time to join a team that works to build confidence in the quality of our evidence base and the capability of our customers when using data. The team seeks to provide future-focused insight that drives improvements in the employment experience MoJ creates for its employees.
We are looking for a motivated analyst to work in a challenging and exciting environment within the team. We are looking for a candidate with a track record of delivering innovative data solutions that have a real impact, whilst working collaboratively with others to ensure the right analytical/statistical solution is delivered in an effective and efficient way.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Managing the delivery of HR Management Information (MI), using technical knowledge and data manipulation/reporting skills to produce regular and ad-hoc reports that utilise appropriate visualisations. Where possible, streamline and automate the process.
Conducting statistical analysis on bespoke questions to provide a deeper understanding of experiences across the employee lifecycle.
Validate, improve, and innovate analytical tools and techniques for HR data.
Support in managing, cleaning, and ensuring the quality of data to prepare it for analysis. Assisting in data quality checks and cleansing processes.
We’re looking for a highly motivated person who meets the following essential criteria:
Strong data manipulation and analytical skills, including the ability to derive insight from multiple data sources.
Experience applying statistical analysis techniques and an aptitude for interpreting data, identifying trends and correlations, and disseminating analytical findings.
Experience with a programming language, such as R or Python, or a willingness to learn and use R.
Effective communication skills, with experience of communicating insights to a range of stakeholders.
An adaptable team player, with experience of working collaboratively and confidently with others, yet is comfortable using initiative when working alone.
You meet at least one of the following:
You possess a numerate, analytical or STEM degree or a degree that has an analytical, statistical or research element, with a 2:2 or above, or as a higher degree (e.g. MSc, PhD).
Alternatively, you have significant work experience, evidencing the use of data and/or analytical skills.
Desirable skills:
Experience in conducting statistical analysis on people-related data to deliver insights.
Experience in using visualisation techniques such as PowerBI and R Shiny.
Experience or exposure to working with personal and sensitive data, including experience in designing and implementing data processes aligned with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR).

In the event of a large volume of applications being received, an initial sift will carried out on the lead behaviour (Delivering at Pace).
You will also be required to write a statement of suitability in 500 words, please provide examples of how you meet the skills experience and essential criteria in the job description.

Interview:
There will be two stages to the interview process.
In the first stage, candidates will be assessed against the technical criteria. As part of this interview stage, you will be asked to complete a technical exercise using R/ Python or another data programming language of your choice. Candidates will also be asked to give a presentation on a technical piece of work that they have undertaken, details will be shared with the candidates who are successful at the sift.
In the second stage, candidates will be assessed on the three Behaviours (listed below), and Strengths.
