HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales. The Key purpose of the role is to
Lead a team of 7 members of staff and work closely with the lead judge of the Administrative Court, Senior Operation Manager and Lawyers to ensure the effective allocation of cases in a busy and fast paced working environment. The post holder will be required to organise and plan the itineraries of the High Court Judges and Deputy High Court Judges who sit in the Administrative Court. In addition, the post holder will be required to process other administrative, HR and governance duties. The post holder should have good communication skills, be efficient and is able to prioritise their own work as well as their team’s work.
Main Activities / Responsibilities
The job holder will be required to undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
To oversee the listing of cases that may concern sensitive subject matter and to ensure these cases are audited under strict protocols.
To process and case manage specialist and high-profile hearings.
Coordinate the Administrative Court User Group meetings, Planning meetings with the judiciary and ceremonial events.
To manage, support and motivate the listing team, with a focus on personal development and meeting business needs.
Establishing an effective working relationship with senior judiciary, this will involve advice on listing issues and solutions.
To monitor the dairy of the judge in charge of the Administrative Court and to discuss any relevant concerns.
To monitor and improve court utilisation ensuring sufficient work is listed. This will include court room allocations for deputy High Court judges.
To liaise with Judicial Office colleagues ensuring judges allocated to the court have the appropriate experience and expertise for assigned cases.
Assess the impact of new policies and processes on performance.
Respond promptly to emails from customers, judiciary, and stakeholders.
To oversee workflow and delegate tasks effectively.
Oversee the running of data reports and provide analysis when required.
To assist with planning and communications for high profile cases.
To assist overseeing staffing levels and deputy judges budgets.
To ensure a high level of governance is applied and best practice is implemented.
To be actively involved and to contribute to management meetings.
To be accountable to the King’s Bench Senior Operations Manager.
Other Duties
The post holder is required to work in a flexible way and undertake any other duties reasonably requested by the line management which are commensurate with the end level or responsibility of this post.
