Overview
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice. We provide support for the legal system across England and Wales, along with non-devolved tribunals in Scotland and Northern Ireland, ensuring justice works for everyone.

The key purpose of the role
Be responsible for the efficient use of courtrooms and court staff through the effective listing and control of court business.
Liaise regularly with Judges to discuss their listings, providing judicial support, and best practice.
Prepare daily lists to ensure effective use of judicial time and parties.
To assist in the delivery of performance against targets.
Progress cases to achieve the earliest possible resolution. Ensuring effective & efficient hearings.
Work closely with Judiciary to resolve problems or take remedial steps to ensure compliance with orders.
Work closely with family agencies to assist in ensuring readiness for hearing.
Key responsibilities
Operations
Case Progression
Ensure that public law cases are managed in accordance with required policies.
Cases progressed to achieve the earliest possible resolution.
Work closely with Judiciary to resolve problems or take remedial steps to ensure compliance with orders.
Work closely with family agencies to assist in ensuring readiness for hearing.
To monitor and review listing practices so as to ensure the efficient and effective throughput of workload.
To collect and collate relevant statistics including the annual return and produce regular reports for Managers.
Maintain effective working relationships with the judiciary, supporting agencies, voluntary and user groups. Working with agencies to improve the level of service offered to users.
Respond to customers with Judges comments or approval on return, and process applications accordingly.
Urgent box work identified and clearly marked, with clear explanation of judicial requirements.
Listing
To ensure effective allocation of hearing dates in order to meet required targets and user requirements.
Liaise regularly with Judges to discuss their listings, providing judicial support, and best practice.
Check Itinerary and availability fully
Prepare daily lists to ensure effective use of judicial time and parties advised if cases unassigned (if appropriate).
Publish Daily Cause List and update as required. Provide relevant copies of lists ensuring confidentiality maintained.
Statistics
Record and monitor daily Disposal statistics, ensuring complete record maintained.
Monitor key performance areas, analyse performance trends and ensure appropriate action is taken to build on strong performance and address areas of weakness.
Record and input weekly OPT data in a timely manner, checking accuracy of data with colleagues.
Provide feedback to staff, judiciary, and other stakeholders on performance against targets.
Operations
To work with other court teams to ensure that judicial resources are available to meet scheduled hearing dates.
To assist in the implementation of consistent administrative practices, procedures and standards, identifying and implementing solutions to team problems.
Set quality standards and regularly test them.
To conduct ongoing reviews of procedures and work practices and manage the implementation of new initiatives and legislation.
Monitor and proactively report on HMCTS assurance programme and contribute to ongoing development.
Deputise for the Delivery Manager as necessary.
Think beyond own area of responsibility, considering wider policy and organisational implications of issues.

The post holder is required to work in a flexible way and undertake any other duties reasonably requested by line management which are commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of this post.
