Salary range (depending on location):

National - £35,335 - £37,847
London - £40,014 - £42,859


Please note that unless you are currently employed by the Civil Service and are earning more than the minimum above, if successful you will be offered the minimum for the grade depending on your location.


Location: National - (Any LAA Office) 

Please note that whilst this role is open to all Civil Service staff, you can only apply for London, Cambridge and Brighton offices if you are a current LAA staff member based in those offices. This is due to and in line with the LAA's Location Strategy and the Cabinet Office's Places for Growth Strategy.

Please note that travel to other offices may be required

The post is supported by the MOJ flexible working policy and includes colleagues who work flexibly, remotely, part time or as part of a job share etc.

To meet legal requirements, if you are between the ages 16-18 and you are a successful candidate, you will be required to complete an apprenticeship after your initial on the job training.


The Legal Aid Agency

We are an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). We are responsible for operationally administering the legal aid fund to provide criminal and civil legal aid advice to people in England and Wales.

Corporate Services

The Corporate Services team helps shape and enable the priorities of the Chief Executive, Executive Leadership Team and People Committee to be delivered.

The LAA fully supports hybrid and flexible working. Members of the Corporate Services and the Strategy, Data and Analysis Team are based in multiple locations across England and Wales. Travel will be required on occasion.

Strategy, Data and Analysis Team

The Strategy, Data and Analysis Team supports wider Corporate Services to help shape and enable the priorities of the Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Team by providing data reporting analysis of the LAA’s progress against its strategic aims. 

Job Summary

As a Senior MI & Data Analyst, you'll play a key role in helping the Legal Aid Agency make better decisions through the intelligent use of data.

Working with large and complex datasets, you'll identify trends, risks and opportunities, transforming information into meaningful insight that supports operational and strategic decision-making. Your analysis will help shape how the Agency delivers services and improves access to justice across England and Wales.

This is more than a reporting role. You'll work closely with colleagues across the LAA, Ministry of Justice and wider justice system to understand business challenges, challenge assumptions where appropriate and provide evidence-based recommendations that influence decision making.

You'll continuously look for opportunities to improve reporting, automate processes and enhance data quality, ensuring the Agency has trusted, accurate and timely information to support its priorities.

The role combines technical expertise, analytical thinking and strong stakeholder engagement, making it ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, influencing through evidence and driving continuous improvement.

Ability Assessment

Candidates will complete a short analytical exercise using a data analysis tool. You'll be asked to analyse a dataset, identify the key findings and present your recommendations to the interview panel. This assessment is designed to reflect the type of analytical work undertaken within the role.
