Organisational Overview
The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) protects people in England and Wales who may not have the mental capacity to make certain decisions for themselves, such as about their health and finance. We are an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), set up in 2007 following the introduction of the Mental Capacity Act of 2005.
OPG is responsible for registering lasting powers of attorney (LPA) and enduring powers of attorney (EPA) and supervising deputies who are appointed by the Court of Protection.
OPG is a fantastic place to work offering a range of development opportunities. The OPG is a disability confident employer and is committed to developing a supportive and inclusive environment that reflects the diverse community we serve.
OPG is currently delivering an ambitious transformation programme. This will change the way we provide services and help us meet the growing needs of our users, partners and our stakeholders. It will make sure our users experience a better level of support and will help us to respond to the changing needs of society. Transformation will ensure we can better support adults at risk and create high-quality services that are accessible and affordable.
Team Overview
The roles are within the Business Design, Development & Delivery Team (BD3), a specialist operational team under the Digital Service Owner that focuses on managing business-as-usual (BAU) changes to operational teams and delivering larger transformational projects. The BAU work includes providing solutions to operational issues, implementing new policies, and continuous improvement (CI) of operational processes and digital systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
The roles will be responsible for:
Delivering on an upgrade schedule to replace MS Excel-based tools used by operational staff with MS Power Platform solutions.
Working closely with MoJ Power Platform team to understand functionality, learn how to build, test, and implement solutions.
Maintaining and fixing legacy Excel-based IT solutions across Power of Attorney Services (POAS) or Supervision. These existing tools are vital for the business but have been built by a number of users over the years and are in a variety of different maintenance states.
Working with Business Change experts to maintain and develop these products in an agile way, ensuring maximum benefit is released for minimum risk and user feedback informs iteration and improvement of products.
Collaboration with the Continuous Improvement, Implementation, Operational, Policy, and other stakeholders to build digital tools that add value and efficiency to our service.
The roles may be required to manage an Associate Small Systems Analyst (EO) and be responsible for their development in the same field of expertise.
There are two roles, one will be focusing on the POAS operational area, and the other will be focusing on the Supervision operational area. For this reason, travel between sites will be required.
Agreed Expectations
The successful candidate will be expected to work from their base location on a weekly basis in line with current Civil Service requirements, outside of any reasonable adjustments. Travel between the Birmingham and Nottingham sites will be required.
