About the Wales Office
The Wales Office is the face of the UK Government in Wales and the voice of Wales in

representing Wales at the heart of Government. We work in partnership with other
Government Departments and other stakeholders to deliver a stronger Wales within a strong
United Kingdom.
Our departmental values are Commitment, Collaboration and Quality. These shape how we
operate in a challenging, demanding, and fast paced environment which requires flexibility,
transparency, and professionalism.
The Office is based over two sites, in Cardiff and Whitehall. The expectation is that the
postholder will undertake regular international travel.
Brand Wales
The Wales Office is set to launch an exciting new programme, Brand Wales, which will
promote Welsh investment opportunities and exports around the world. This programme of
work will bring together partners to deliver this work, including the Welsh Government, the
Department for Business and Trade and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office
to ensure our international networks are selling Wales. This post will support the development
and delivery of the Brand Wales programme.
Key Responsibilities
This is a high-profile, exciting and fast-paced role which will require engagement with a wide-
range of stakeholders including with ministers. You will play a role in shaping the Department’s
work to kick start economic growth in Wales through promoting Welsh investment opportunity
and exports around the world. As the Wales Office is a small department, the post holder will

The role will involve:
• Leadership of a small team focussed on developing and delivering the Brand Wales
programme and playing an active role in leadership within the policy team and
department more widely.
• Contribute to the development of a long-term strategy underpinning the Brand Wales
programme - gathering evidence and intelligence and adapting priorities as required.
• Day-to-day oversight of the Brand Wales programme, including the Brand Wales Fund
providing funding to the overseas networks to deliver activities that support the
programme’s objectives.
• Oversight of programme of Minister-led Trade and Investment Missions and trade and
investment events in the UK and overseas to attract investment into Wales.
• Supporting the Brand Wales SRO to ensure delivery of the strategic objectives for the
programme - overseeing tracking and reporting progress against strategic objectives.
• Forging partnerships with senior stakeholders across UK and Welsh governments
(including those posted internationally) to ensure a ‘Team Wales’ approach to delivery.
• Building trusted relationships with senior external stakeholders (such as Chief
Executives of key businesses and organisations) to promote export and investment
opportunities.
• Delivering timely and quality briefing and advice to ministers on Brand Wales -
supporting them in their Parliamentary and other duties.
Person Specification
Please evidence how closely you match the essential criteria in your Statement of Suitability:
Essential:
• Excellent communicating and influencing skills with experience of building and
maintaining relationships with senior stakeholders.
• Ability to identify solutions and solve complex problems whilst working collaboratively
across teams.
• An ability to work and deliver in a fast-paced environment and able to adapt to
changing priorities.
• An ability to navigate a complex economic, political and constitutional landscape, to
work with the Welsh Government and local partners to ensure a joined-up approach to
promoting Wales.
• Experience of providing policy advice and briefing senior officials or Ministers.
Desirable:
• Welsh Language skills.
