The successful candidate will be responsible for providing professional fire, health and safety support (advice and assurance) to senior duty-holder roles and Regional Safety and Security Officers, across the North East, North West, Scotland and including supporting the National Business Centre’s and Courts and Tribunal Service Centre’s. The successful candidate can be based at any HMCTS site within these regions.
As part of your role, you will be expected to attend multiple HMCTS sites located throughout your region on a regular basis with occasional travel to other locations in the country. Travel and accommodation costs incurred for official duties will be fully funded by HMCTS in line with departmental policy.
You will have the opportunity to discuss and agree your preferred base location within your region with your line manager at the onboarding stage.

About the role
You will work within the HMCTS HQ, National Security and Safety Team, as a Fire, Health and Safety Business Partner, providing professional fire, health and safety support (advice and assurance) to senior duty-holder roles and Regional Safety and Security Officers, across the North East, North West, Scotland and including supporting the National Business Centre’s and Courts and Tribunal Service Centre’s.
Your role as the Senior Fire Safety and Health and Safety Business Partner encompasses several key aspects (but not limited to):
Quality checking/continued professional development support of Regional Safety and Security Officers work
Delivery of technical regional management system safety and security audits.
Assist, when required, the HQ Safety and Security team with support, advice and delivery of Fire, Health and Safety organisational-level risk assessments, development of HMCTS Health and Safety policies and risk assurance arrangements.
Provide professional Fire, Health and Safety engagement as necessary with other external stakeholders on safety issues as required, including CPFSI, HSE, Local Authorities and other government departments.
Provide effective, active and dynamic leadership, communicating HMCTS safety and security requirements, objectives, plans and priorities with clarity, conviction and enthusiasm.
Who are we looking for? (Person Specification)
The ideal candidate for this position should demonstrate:
Essential
A specialist H&S qualification (NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent working towards the Diploma or equivalent).
Strong understanding of Fire Safety principles including a good knowledge of British Standards on fire safety (in particular, BS 9999 & BS 9997) and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, as well as having or a willingness to gain a recognised fire safety qualification to a minimum of NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety
Strong understanding of the legislative requirements relating to fire safety and H&S in the UK
Membership of IOSH, IFE or the IFSM would be an advantage, and an ongoing commitment to Safety and Security competence and CPD is essential
Previous experience of working in a senior Health and Safety management role, delivering Fire and Health and Safety audits
Previous experience in engaging with senior managers and stakeholders to develop and review policies and procedures and audit and assess the effectiveness of management arrangements, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement, when necessary, even when this proves unpopular
